Modomnoc, of the royal O'Neill kindred, studied in Wales under St David and kept the monastery's bees before returning to Ireland, where tradition says a swarm followed him across the sea. He ended his days as a hermit at Tibraghny in Ossory and is honored as the patron of bees and beekeepers.
